In comparison to Holloway floor polish....
My home has several hardwood floors. This review compares the results of using Bona high-gloss floor polish to using Holloway high gloss floor polish [...] on these floors. All the floors are the same Bruce prefinished Oak. The living and dining room floors are 13 years old, and receive the most traffic as we have to go through one of those rooms to reach the front door (two people, two dogs with clicking claws). The office floor is only three years old, and receives much less traffic. I used the Holloway product on the living/dining room floors until it ran out with a small portion of the dining room unfinished. I went to the local big-box home improvement store. They did not have the Holloway, but recommended the Bona. I thus finished the dining room and then did half the office with the Bona. Important difference number one: the Holloway treated floors took on a wonderful gloss, and really looked good. The Bona treated floor portion of the dining room and the much newer floor in the office did not shine nearly as well. In addition, the office floor showed obvious streaking and blotching although I had applied the product generously. Worst, the treated half of the office floor was hardly more glossy than the untreated half. Difference two: The Holloway polish was quick and easy to apply - spray lines on the clean floor, spread with a damp mop. Done. The Bona requires essentially the same treatment, but the directions say to use the Bona microfiber pad tool, available at extra cost. Difference three: The Holloway product dries completely in 1/2 hour. Bona says to allow at least one hour, and up to 24 hours for "heavy traffic," which is undefined. Bottle problem: The snap-up lid on the Bona bottle does not seal. After the inner seal is broken for use, the bottle leaks if you tip it or shake it gently before use as instructed. Of course, since it is not sealed, the product will evaporate if not used soon. I also found that until it was dry, the Bona product caused my eyes to water, my nose to run, and a cough. Of course not everyone may experience this, but I do not have this kind of reaction to any other household product I have ever used. I am going to throw away the rest of the Bona and get more Holloway.
