Seriously, READ this before buying
First, I can eat protein bars that taste bad as long as the nutritional value makes the bad taste worth it. I’ve been training for years and have tried them all. These little gems showed up in my FB newsfeed with the delicious looking packaging and hundreds of “these taste like glazed donuts” and “OMG Just like a Thin Mint” comments. Look, there are no protein bars that taste like a glazed donut. But these…. These are probably THE worst tasting protein bar that I have ever tasted. The Chocolate Mint’s aftertaste was unbearable. To validate my point I passed 3 bars around to multiple friends who train on a regular basis. We all loved the nutritional label but GOOT LAWD the taste! I literally gargled 3 hour old cold coffee to try to get the aftertaste out of my mouth. If these things were even a LITTLE good I’d happily eat them just because of the nutritional value… but they are not. Not even a little. Nope.
UPDATE:
So the good and the bad after receiving the second box.
The good: Julian Bakery has good customer service (at least for me it was). After my bad review they sent me another box and did it quickly. They really seem to feel that they have a great product.
The bad: seriously, these really don't even kind of taste good. Let's be honest, if you have 400 reviews and 100% of them are positive anyone who's social media savvy knows they're either staged or you're removing the bad ones. I called BS when I first saw it but I can motor through some bad stuff for the nutrition. In trying to be fair I shared my second box with 8 other people. The general consensus was that there's no way someone can set out to make a flavor and then exclaim "nailed it!" After pulling these out of the oven or mold or whatever. They are just really bad. BUT the nutritional value is phenomenal. My suggestion, for what it's worth, is to forego some of the nutritional value in lieu of making the taste edible or allow negative reviews. Paleo and/or healthy doesn't mean bad tasting. These are, I'm sorry, really bad. I mean really bad. But there may be folks who couldn't care less as long as they are getting the nutrition. If you could package 75% of the nutritional value and lose the awful taste and after-taste you may have a winner.
