Failed while I was away and opened my garage door upon failure
I have a garage in an urban area and it is VERY important that the garage door not be left open (valuable bikes and tools in the garage). I bought this control unit in late 2013 to ensure that my garage door would always be closed when it is supposed to be and won't get left open. This controller has two features that I thought would provide what I need: 1) the controller has a timer that automatically closes the door when it is left open more than 5 min, 2) the controller has wifi connectivity and there is a Liftmaster smartphone app that alerts you whenever the door opens. All was fine and good until yesterday when I was out of town and got a call from a neighbor asking if my garage door was supposed to be open as it had been for some time. It turns out that this controller failed, and upon failure opened the garage door. Furthermore, because the controller had failed, the garage door was not automatically closed again after 5 min and I did not get an alert on my smartphone. The Liftmaster app indicated the door was closed. So, I thought I had a controller that would prevent my garage door from ever being left open, but instead I got a controller that opened the door without being asked to, left it open, and failed to notify me. What kind of horrible garage door controller design has a failure mode that automatically opens the door upon failure??? FAIL
