NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE.
Unfortunately, I have seen a decline in the quality and academic validity of brain quest since I began using them to homeschool my children ten years ago. The list of sub standard material in this particular book is now too exhaustive to list. But I will give two examples I found unacceptable:
Teaching ancient Egypt, referring to the Hebrew slaves only as “builders”. This is akin to teaching American history and calling African slaves “farmers”.
Secondly, either an oversight or an attempt to create confusion in the student; asking a question that is not answered in the text. For example, page 97. The child is expected to know where Miami is located, as it does not appear on the map. Further, the text on the page does not answer any of the questions; which Is vital at this age, teaching children to gain the answers by reading and comprehending relevant text.
I am not surprised at the decline in academic standard over the past decade, just disappointed.
