★★☆☆☆
Little progress, lots of repetition.
First off, I love Karen Marie Moning's books for the most part. All except the last two. I loved all of her earlier books because they were new, well-paced, humorous, mystical, romantic and just plain fantastic. When I started reading the Fever series I was surprised at her turn to the dark side of the Fae, but I trustingly went along for the ride.
Books one and two were new for me (I rarely read dark-themed books) but once I got used to that I thought they were pretty good. In the last two books however, things seem to have gotten very repetitive. Mac has gone from perfectly matched, polished, beautiful, and blonde in pink and rainbows to lean, jagged, scruffy, rough and now Mac in black...got it already, can we move on now? There are more monsters in the Unseelie world than will ever be known, and they all keep getting more and more horrific. Again, got it...over and over and over again. Can we move on here also?
She still hasn't gotten answers regarding Barrons, V'lane, the Sinsar Dubh, her own place as a player on the board etc. Nothing really seems to have progressed at all in the last two books. She still in the same dilemma, going in the same direction, dealing with the same major issues and still in the same dark as usual. The author just keeps changing the physical locations and the appearances of the monsters. The story just doesn't seem to be developing and growing anymore. Enough already. I just want to get to the end.
I think this story would have been way better if it had been kept to 3 books at most. I will be far more cautious about investing in future series by Ms Moning. Sadly, this one is becoming very long, disappointing and expensive.
