I felt like I was reading someone's fanfiction. And this book needed way more editing. There were so many characters that could have just been combined as one (The Duke and Lord Mazzeen) and (Rylan and Viktor) just to name a few. The plot was weak. I'm all about romance and action but 90% of this book is her pining over Hawke and the action was so idk tepid. I just couldn't visualize the world the author was trying to create. What even is purpose if the maiden or the rite or the ascension? None of that is ever made clear. Or maybe it is, idk, but I didn't finish the book to find out. I stopped reading half way through the book. Also does her brother even exist? He's mentioned so much but do we ever even see him? Another character that could have been written out of the story imo. And don't get me started on the dialogue. My gosh it was so repetitive that I had to skip a lot of it. Somethings Poppy said out loud should just have been kept in her head. And the flirting, it was just terrible...no AWFUL to read. It's like this author took every cheesy teen romance dialogue and threw it in this book. I'm all about romance but this, this was just...not good. And if I have to hear the words "lessons" or "dimple" one more time I'm gonna scream. Idk there's so much more I could say but it's whatever. This review is about all over the place as this book
