I have three laptops, and MacBook Pro, and old Dell running on windows 7 and a new HP running on windows 10. I bought this item so that I could transfer all my files from an old HD that was only readable by the Dell running on windows 7. I was hoping that I could download files for both Windows and Mac, so the first thing I did was to connect this to my Mac and have it formatted automatically - that was a mistake. After that I couldn't even find the drive when connected to the other two computers. No problem, I formatted the HD again and this time was able to view it on all three laptops. I spent ALL day today downloading all my files from the old HD (movies, music, pictures, documents, etc.) it was a very long, slow process. I did this using my Windows 7 laptop, since it was the only one that would allow me to access the old HD. When I was done, I checked the Toshiba HD and all files were there, I even opened a few without problems. Then I decided to switch to the newer computer so that I could organize the files more efficiently. Imagine my surprise when I checked the drive and all I found was a folder for Windows 10 upgrade (WTF!?). I checked the drive with the other two computers and sure enough, that's all there is. When did this happen? where have all my files gone? Most of these are gone forever because I erased them from the old drive - was planning on throwing that aways once the transfer was done. The enormity of this loss has not fully hit me yet, but needless to say, I'm not a happy camper. I bought the extra recovery package - that should have been a warning when they offered that as part of the package. This thing is going back and hopefully my files can be recovered - not happy at all. * Before anybody asks, yes, I check for hidden files, all files are gone, gone, gone.
