If you are buying this for Amazon Prime Video, save your money; it does not work.
Does not work with Amazon Prime, as of 12 July 2014. I have an IPAD that is the latest generation (maybe 2 months old) and it runs the amazon video app to its retina display just fine, but only the soundtrack makes it to the HDMI TV.
As nearly as I can tell, this is not a hardware limitation, but rather a limitation that has been deliberately programmed in to the software. I am inclined to believe that Amazon put this limitation in place (to sell more of their tablets), but this is not a technical problem--someone, either Apple, or Amazon, or both, WANT(s) this to not work. What an absolute load of excrement. If Amazon Instant Video is your goal, save your money on this device. Perhaps the limitation will be eliminated some day, but only if enough people squawk enough, to affect the bottom-line of one or both of the companies.
As an owner of 5 Kindles, several Android devices and multiple iPad/iPods, I resent this deliberate limitation to my enjoyment of my equipment.
