Easily broken
We thought this would be a step up from our inexpensive dehumidifiers. My wife became very frustrated when it could not even keep up with a small crawlspace. She put a small, inexpensive dehumidifier in the space, turned them both on, and measured the water obtained by each. The cheap humidifier outperformed this one many times over. Closer inspection shows that the collection system on the AlorAir is weak, injection molded plastic, which was broken when we opened the dehumidifier. The broken plastic meant that the basin was leaking into the base of the dehumidifier, where the water evaporated back into the crawlspace. It was handled with care from the moment it arrived to the moment it was escorted out the door. I would guess that about 50 pounds of pressure is all it would take to break the plastic legs supporting the basin. From an engineering perspective, it amazed me that a thin plate of galvanized steel plate runs all the way down to the plastic legs, but does not extend to the bottom of the dehumidifier to reinforce this weak point.
Because this was probably broken on arrival, and there is no way to know that it is broken without taking it apart, and the design flaw that can break the basin that connects to the drain so easily, I would recommend against having this device shipped to your property. Parcels are sometimes handled roughly, and you can see in the picture the little plastic leg that the basin and function depend on.
I suspect we spent more in wasted electricity than the device itself cost, with nothing to show for it but frustration. It was perhaps my all time worst online purchase.
