Unit self destructed, charred, shorted. DO NOT BUY
Unit spontaneously self destructed after 3 months. Charring seen across all three outlets, intenally on buss bars, and also one neon light lead. Power was applied via GFCI protected circuit but no loads were plugged in. Unit was outdoors with outlet holes pointing toward ground and about 2 feet above ground. We were out of town when this happened during a stormy period and came home to find this. GFCI had opened and also the 15A breaker. The entire house is protected by a industrial grade two stage Josyln surge protector, so overvoltage not possible. Fluke meter indicates a short between line and neutral. An identical unit was on same circuit with no issues. I am retired electrical engineer and wrote manufactures power engineering group contact page and requested they send me an address to mail unit to for failure analysis, which is typical starting point in root causing situations like this. No response yet, so maybe this will help get their attention, as I believe this needs to be root caused, as thes units are sold in many big box stores too. Would advise NOT PURCHASING until manufacture publishes failure analysis and follow up actions
