I purchased this food processor about a year ago. It is great as a food processor EXCEPT for when using the shredding discs!! I think it's a poor design. The disc begins to bang and scratch the edge of the plastic cover when I try to shred cheese. The disc seems to easily get off balance. I contacted KitchenAid and they replaced the processor.... but the problem continues with the new one. They gave me another shaft that holds the disc... but the great noise and scratching continue. I bought this because I wanted a small processor to shred cheese (i.e. mozzarella, cheddar, as well as parmesean). It works great using the blades in the bowls. The 3-cup bowl is wonderful for small projects BUT the disc design has to go!
