The kettle is cute but upon opening, there were already some odd looking spots on the inside bottom (where metal touches the water). I performed 4 water-only boils per the manufacturer's instructions. I then went to boil water for tea and noticed that the spots became even more pronounced and there now was definite visible rust. I figure I must have received a defective unit because there are so many positive reviews. Returning, going to try a replacement because I so wanted to like this kettle. Disappointed :(
