These are manufactured without the standard thermal safety fuse. I have evaluated and tested many brands including the official iRobot Roomba batteries and this is the only Roomba battery I have discovered to be manufactured without the safety fuse. As you probably know, batteries of this size can present a very real fire hazard in your home. This is why it is unthinkable to me that any manufacture would skimp on this $0.04 part. In the event of a pending catastrophic battery failure, the safety fuse will force the roomba to shutdown and avoid a true disaster for your home, but it can’t protect you if the manufacture pulls it out of the battery design. In my testing I ran this battery though 205 cycles installed in various iRobot Roomba models. In the early cycles I noted that this battery did run hotter then it should, but it did run the roomba for a normal duration to complete cleaning cycles as expected. However as the battery aged it began triggering the Roomba’s secondary over heat detection and would end the cleaning cycle. It is not typical for Roomba Batteries to over heat. So the safety fuse aside, this battery stood out from the others I have been testing as the only one that eventually began to run too hot for the roomba to finish it’s cleaning sessions. When I disassembled the battery I found that the internal cells were all operating within normal threshold of voltage and capacity. Therefore a cell failure was not the cause of the excess heat. Now for pure speculation. Based on the unusual characteristics of this battery overheating without any cell failure, I suspect that the manufacturer is using cells that are not rated for an appropriate current draw. I can’t help but wonder if the manufacture knows full well that the cells used in this battery are not up to the task. Did they omitted the safety fuse because otherwise there would be problems triggering the fuse due to the excess heat produced by this battery? PLEASE BE AWARE of this apparent lack of consideration for your safety by this manufacturer. Consider carefully before trusting one of these batteries in your roomba.
