CAUTION FOR RESTRICTED DIETS- lower quality ingredients
The 30 PATE PACK ingredients uses lower quality ingredients than the original PATE varieties.
I had been feeding my cat Fancy Feast's PATE Formula exclusively after she was diagnosed with diabetes— about 2 years.
This particular formula (PATE) is recommended on several lists as safe for diabetic cats. Indeed, It is higher in from actual beef, chicken, and turkey derived protein - listed as first ingredients and includes lower amounts of meat-by-products, fillers, and starches—found in other fancy feast varieties.
When I saw the 30 pack available, naturally I bought it. The PATEs were the main staple of my pet's diet for close to two years and actually, her diabetes had been in remission for the last nine months.
After about a week I started to notice some symptoms and signs that indicated diabetes was returning.
It wasn't until the second week I thought to read the ingredients on the cans included with the 30 PATE pack when I discovered they are not the same as the original PATE flavors she had been eating. In fact, each variety included a lot more meat and poultry by-products, essentially, lower quality protein and less of it. But includes more fillers, and starches and wheat gluten. In essence, the stuff most likely responsible for her illness to begin with. I immediately stopped feeding these varieties to her made an appointment with the vet. By the beginning of the third week, she was dead. It was too late.
Nothing is conclusive, the things I do know are facts:
1.) The varieties included in the 30 PATE pack list lower quality ingredients than the 24 PATE pack varieties.
2.) My cat relapsed when I started feeding her the new varieties, — with no other diet changes.
If your cat is on a restricted diet read the ingredient labels often. There is little regulation or oversight for ingredients in Pet food again.
