Bummer
I ordered this diffuser as a Christmas gift and received it yesterday. After reading all of the similar complaints in the one star reviews, I opened it and began using it right away so I would know whether or not my unit was defective. It's very pretty, perfectly sized and has great output. However, I left the unit running and left my house for a short time, and when I returned I didn't smell any of the essential oils that I had used. I stuck my nose directly into the stream of mist and couldn't smell anything. I removed the cover and noticed that the water that was once at room temperature was now very very warm. Today I decided to try it again, but this time I used a thermometer and tracked the temperature over an hour period. The first photo just shows the thermometer sticking out of the unit. The second photo shows the water temperature before the unit was turned on which I estimate to be about 65°. The second photo shows the temperature had reached 109.1°F after 30 minutes. The third photo shows that the water temperature was too high to register on the thermometer after 1 hour. This matches the complaints of most of the people who gave this unit a low rating. It also explains why I could no longer smell my essential oils the first night, as high temperatures degrade the oils very quickly. This diffuser was exactly what I was looking for, but there is obviously something wrong with the mechanism.
