This t-stat does not work!
UPDATED REVIEW AFTER ONE NIGHT OF USE:
Allow me to start by saying the first five pictures are of the original review upon installation. If you wish to read my initial review upon installation, that portion of the review is after this section.
I set my t-stat to 67 to sleep at night. I keep it at 68 to 70 during the day depending on the outside temperature. After installation, everything was fine. I set it to 68, and it kept the house at 68. Then when I went to bed last night I dropped it one degree to 67. But I noticed as I was crawling between the sheets it seemed warmer than usual. I dropped it down to 66 just incase the t-stat was off a degree or whatever.
When I woke in the morning, it was way too warm in the house for my polar taste. I checked the ecobee and it was displaying a temperature of 69. I broke out my calibrated digital thermometer and placed it on top of the ecobee, and it read 72. Then I broke out the Fluke infrared thermometer and it backed up the digital thermometer at 72. I went outside and the AC unit was not running. I came back in and dropped the ecobee to 64 to see if the unit kicked on, and it did. By that time the temperature got up to 73 inside the house, and the ecobee was still reading 69. So needless to say, that was the end of the ecobee. No sense in calling customer service because there is nothing they can do to get it to read the proper temperature if it doesn't want to. I don't have the time to deal with it, either. But as you can see, the temperature outside from my weather station was 83 degrees, and the temperature inside the house was coming back down. When it finally reached the setting on the original thermostat, you can see the setting and both temperature readings were all the same, so no one can say my thermometer and Fluke infrared gun were off.
I packed the ecobee back up and will be returning it, and I have already ordered another brand.
ORIGINAL REVIEW UPON INSTALLATION:
I just installed this thermostat, so the rating on this review is subject to change at a later date. I have yet to find out if the wiring to the ecobee will operate the heat mode of the heat pump and the auxiliary heat strips. The picture you see here is the old t-stat wiring, and the white wire on the Y2 with the jumper to W2 is confusing. I might have to look at the wiring diagram on my unit.
It burped one time trying to connect to my wi-fi network, but was successful the second time. I created an account on the ecobee website and configured the unit the way I chose.
The installation was easy, and everything set up as advertised. I also included pictures from the iOS app and the website.
The one thing I really do not like, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five, is the ungodly huge WHITE wallplate. You watch the video for the thermostat and they show husband and wife all happy in their home with the BLACK ecobee thermostat in the background. Look at all the pictures above provided by the manufacturer of that thermostat and you won't see a single picture with the huge WHITE wallplate that is provided if you have to use it to cover the holes made for your old thermostat. It does NOT go with my decor! I'll figure something out. A black plate about 2" less in diameter would be nice. Why in the world they would make a black-faced thermostat and provide such a gaudy white wallplate to go with it is beyond me!
