For the first 3 months of use the UHD50 4k projector was perfect. Then, suddenly, it started making a very loud whirring/hum noise. This is shown in the video I have uploaded. I saw there is a 1-year warranty so I reached out to customer service and an RMA was created for me. I sent the projector across the country to Optoma (a $100 shipping fee with package insurance). After a week I checked the status and saw these RMA notes: Found: NOISE (CAUSED BY FAN, COLOR WHEEL OR OTHERS) Repair: DEFECTIVE PARTS OR MODULE, REPLACE DEFECT PARTS OR MODULE Found: OLD VERSION Repair: IMPLEMENT TB/RM TO UPGRADE HARDWARE A few more days went by and I received the "repaired" projector, but it was making the exact same noise. I reached out to the same customer service rep and he explained that all UHD50 and UHD51A models make this noise because of the 4k Actuator. The parts that were "repaired" during the RMA had nothing to do with the the noise being created by the actuator. He kept repeating that this level of noise is normal. Even with my 5.1 surround stereo on, everyone watching is annoyed by the noise from the projector. Don't buy this projector unless you want to hear this constant hum with no possibility of repair, even though you are still under warranty. I will never buy another Optoma product.
