NO ANTIDOTE -BUYER BEWARE
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that your product, as it comes packaged and sold, is not child or pet resistant and this is a HUGE safety concern. I purchased 4 of these bromethalin rat poison kits, planning on using them in my backyard for a newly discovered rat problem. When they arrived I left them in the Amazon cardboard box as I was not ready to use them. Upon further evaluation and thought, I decided not to use the product as a friend of mine had shared a story with me. Her dog had been poisoned when a critter running through her yard had dropped some of the poison from her neighbor’s yard as she did not use poison. I had never thought about that fact and was afraid it could happen to me or one of my neighbors’ animals so I decided to return the product to Amazon. The box was on my kitchen table, a place my 110 lb. Bullmastiff has never in 7 yrs. attempted to get up on or taken things from including full course holiday meals. In fact, she has severe hip arthritis so standing on her hind legs is quite challenging. She pulled the box off of my table while I was at work and chewed through the Amazon corrugated cardboard box and proceeded to chew through one of the products boxes (flimsy cardboard) and ate all 15 blocks of rat poison which are sealed in mere cellophane. REALLY?? Cellophane? SMDH
My dog spent 48 hrs. in the ER / ICU to receive continuous high rate IV fluids and activated charcoal every 8 hours to prevent the neurotoxin from killing her. It cost me $3500 to save my dogs life for the $50 of rat poison I bought. My dog is worth every penny that I spent, and I am lucky that I have the financial resources to be able to provide this for her. Others may have had to euthanize their animal due to financial constraints and god forbid this had been a child who had gotten into this product.
First off, as a doctor of pharmacy, from a drug perspective I do not understand how a company can responsibly sell a poison to consumers that has no antidote. Had my dog ingested the anticoagulant based poison, we could have given vitamin K to keep her from bleeding excessively. This could have been done at home and monitored by her regular vet and would have saved me a lot of heart ache and money.
Also, as a pharmacist and as a parent to both animals and children, I do not understand how you can sell a poison (without an antidote) without placing it into a tamper resistant packaging. Over the counter medications are in child proof containers and are way safer than this product.
