You do not own the HP "Instant ink" cartridges provided with the printer. They are property of HP. You cannot use the provided ink cartridges until you provide a credit card to HP, sign up for the Instant Ink program and agree to pay a monthly fee for replacement ink. Fee varies on how many pages you expect to print. Go over the estimated number, and you pay $.10 per page. Printer requires internet connection so that HP can monitor everything you print. If you use too much ink (ie. for photos) and your cartridges need replacement sooner than expected, expect to wait 5 days or more for HP to mail the replacement cartridges. Oh, you also agree to mail back the used cartridges. This is way too complicated and intrusive for home printers.
