You can't judge a book by its cover
I think I am in the minority here and while I think that the premise of this book was a fun one and I am all for romance novels, this was just a bit too bawdy for me. I should have known that it would not be something that totally appealed to me since the recommendation said that it was like the "Bake-Off" book. Since it was not the same author and because I fell for the cute and whimsical cover, I bought it. Don't get me wrong, I loved reading about the cakes (especially the Choffey cake which sounded heavenly), and I love anything with baking and castles, British history, and "Cinderella" type love stories etc., but the content was just a bit vulgar for me in parts of the book. While the men in my family talk about the "pants worm", I want my romances that I read to be a bit more sophisticated and (do I dare say) old-fashioned. To me there is something enticing about a romance that leaves a bit to the imagination. Therefore, this was just not one of my favorite books. I'm glad others enjoyed this and while I feel like the lone voice, I think that there are others out there that feel the same as I and if I had really realized the adult sexual references were in this book, I would not have bought it. I think some others might appreciate knowing before buying.
