As the title says, EzCal is way overpriced, considering it's just pure citric acid powder. I almost bought it at BB&B to clean my ultrasonic humidifiers, but then thought I'd price it out elsewhere, as I knew this was an outrageous price for only 3 oz (1 oz packages) of a common substance. I first checked in local stores and found it's also overpriced in smaller quantities, though not as costly as EzCal. So I looked online and found it for even less. Buy at least a pound at a time to get better pricing. I use it every 1-2 weeks to keep my units clean and running well. Recipe: Mix 1/8 cup of pure citric acid powder to 4 cups of very hot water in a 4 cup glass Pyrex measuring cup. Stir until the citric acid is dissolved completely. Allow the mixture to cool down to warm, then pour enough of it to fill the base unit, where the oscillator is, and leave it to soak for an hour. Empty the base unit into the sink, it won't it hurt anything, and rinse the base unit at least twice with clean water. That's all there is to it. You can also use plain, distilled white vinegar to demineralize and clean the base units, as the manufacturers often suggest, but I found using the vinegar is less effective and takes a lot longer to dissolve the hard water mineral buildup.
