"Badly done, Emma!": An insult to Jane Austen...
The movie was a complete insult to Jane Austen from farting babies to bloody noses, REALLY? Was this movie supposed to be a spoof??? It was very odd. I watched it because I am a Jane Austen fan and a fan of Bill Nye and Miranda Hart. T he actors did as well as they could given the strange styling of the film and editorial choices, but the directors/editors/producers wasted the actor's talents. Also, the music dominated every scene -- and the musical selections were very odd from insipid "silliness" sounding music of the opening scene (my husband walked out of the movie after five minutes of hearing that music) to Irish ballads, opera and Beethoven - music, which probably wouldn't have been played in the common Georgian English household of that time. Plus the music changed constantly and abruptly and truly overwhelmed every scene. Yet most insulting was the complete lack of character development and of developing the relationships between the characters. The essential nature of the book was omitted. The characters and their relationships to one another is what Jane Austen is so famous for - her strength - and why her characters endure over the centuries! Inexcusable. "Badly done Emma, badly done."
