Pancreatitis Warning for Small Dogs!!!
I began purchasing these allergy snacks a few months ago. And after a couple weeks of use, I posted a 5-star review. They seemed to work great--my dog showed fewer signs of itchiness and her dry, dandery skin seemed to get better. However just this past week, my little dog began throwing up. In fact, she threw up about 13-15 times in the space of just 18 hours. So, we brought her to the vet. Turns out, she has pancreatitis, and all the vomiting was a pancreatitis flare-up. I was talking to the vet about what might have caused this, and I realize now it very likely was the fatty colostrum in these allergy snacks. For some more context, my dog is a schnauzer poodle mix weighing 7 pounds. Which is important in a few ways: -First: schnauzers are particularly prone to the condition. -Second: The bottle's label clearly states that dogs 25 lbs and under should be fed 1 snack daily. (Which are the instructions I followed.) However, after the pancreatitis flare-up, I dove in and did more research. Turns out, on the pethonesty.com website, it advises dogs 10 pounds and under should receive only 1/2 of a snack daily. So, take caution. Good product at first--did what it was supposed to. But if you have a schnauzer or other breed prone to pancreatitis, I would recommend finding a different product. At the very least, be aware that your dog should only receive 1/2 of a snack each day if they are under 10 lbs.
