Buyer Beware, get assurances first...
Buyer beware,
Something fishy is gong on with this so called "protection plan". Some are saying that coverage starts at time of item shipping, which does match what product listing says, but then one person mentioned that it starts as soon as you buy it.
Now easy fix would be to cancel, if you already purchased, then wait till close to release date of dot gen 2, then reorder purchase protection. Problem solved.
However,
I pre-ordered the 6 pack of dots for my home, and i want some questions answered about the "protection" I'm gonna be paying for. I asked specific and targeted questions in the question section. I asked about types of coverage and if the plan only caters to "one" dot, not multiple. I took the time to read all the fine print of their service agreement as well.
Now,
Lo, and behold (but not shocked at all) all questions were just removed from the page. I have never seen that happen before. Was it square trade? Was it Amazon? Its just too fishy. The questions section, albeit dumb and redundant at times, proves very helpful when you have a specific question. The guy who said the strange thing about the time the coverage starts had asked a question there too, of which it is now erased, gone. Leads me to believe something fishy is going on with this "protection plan".
Now, im not saying don't get it to cover your brand new dot, just be careful and get some real assurances before you give these people more of your hard earned money after spending a few bucks already on the dot. $5 bucks is cheap enough for a year of coverage, but that coverage better not be fishy...
That's all I'm saying.
Be careful out there guys, and enjoy your new dots when they arrive. I cant wait for mines!
P.S. Update: 10/09/16
So I figured this mess out. Amazon already offers a 90 day warranty on the echo dot. DON'T purchase any coverage until you are near your 90 day mark with amazon. Then, you can buy a 1 year policy with square trade for 5 bucks. That way, you get 1 year + the original 3 months of coverage. Even square trade tells you if it gets damaged in the 90 day period after receiving, they will refer you to Amazon. Why give them any cash earlier, and lose 3 whole months of coverage?
Also, if you buy say, 2 or more ehco dots, just buy like two 1 year policies for 5 bucks each instead of one 2 year policy for 10 bucks. That way, you can claim for both if needed. Each individual policy covers up to 3 claims.
Heheh....square trade is gonna be pissed....But people should be informed. I'm tired of companies taking advantage of people who don't know better. Also, if i could read and figure stuff out, please try for yourself too. That is all folks.
