Once uopn a time, they were AWESOME. Then Honeywell outsourced them to China and...
Honeywell damaged the Xtratuf brand, which they bought in 2008. They closed the plant in Rock Island, Illinois and laid-off over 250 American workers. They've let down *generations* of consumers and the *entire State of Alaska.* Their managers are not ashamed enough, if you ask me.
The problem? They now fall apart because of assembly line problems. And XtraTuf has acknowledged as much. One notification said that they found an assembly line worker wasn't doing as directed and not using enough glue on the flashing that wraps around the lower part of the boot... People swear by their American-made boots. I do. I'm working on two American-made pairs that I bought back in 2005. Still going strong. Now, folks in Sitka, and Juneau, and Anchorage, and Ketchikan and Fairbanks and Seattle and...everywhere else all say the Chinese made boots are breaking down in a matter of weeks. People are really angry, using words that I shouldn't repeat. Suppliers are quarantining Chinese-made boot stock to send back to the distributors. For such short-sighted management and lack of loyalty to a dedicated American workforce, reviews like this serve the parent company, Honeywell, right. That's my opinion at least.
They raised the price, too, from about $95 to more than $115. More money, less value. Honeywell has defecated on their own brand and taken away something from people who depended on their once-fabulous product.
If they're wondering what's wrong with America, Honeywell management merely needs to look inside themselves. If they say that the problem was that the Illinois plant "wasn't efficient enough" or any other such nonsense, they'll have decades to think about their rationalization as their decision to move their production to China will become a management case study on what NOT to do. They are not to be forgiven. Yeah, I speak for a lot of angry and disappointed Alaskans. We're beyond mad...
