I love Jobes fertilizer spikes. Not only do they feed the trees consistently, they deter underground varmints from attacking the roots. So I ordered this big box to do all my in-ground permaculture and landscape. What I got was a box of DAMP, CRUMBLING, USELESS crud. Nowhere in the shipment was plastic used to protect the stakes - not inside, not outside, not around the package. Fertilizer stakes are DESIGNED to absorb moisture. That's how they work. Smaller packages of Jobes are protected from dampness, of course. Why would anyone ship a whole box of 160 spikes without wrapping them and protecting them from moisture???!! As it was, the big box got left on the ground in the rain by the shipping company. The bottom was soaked, right through to the product inside. No bag or wrapping to protect the spikes. Even so, I was ready to accept the damage and keep going on all my spring chores. I removed all the intact spikes into a dry area. Then in a couple days I tested them. They broke on first, least impact. Not one single spike could take a hit from a hammer to drive it into the ground. They couldn't even resist minor pressure in my hands. They had all done what fertilizer spikes do and absorb moisture that started their disintegration, no matter that they were fully dry again. Why the H*** are these not wrapped in plastic and water-proofed like every Jobe's product? This is ridiculous!! 160 spikes and they don't protect them? WHAT??? So there was no point even in trying again, no matter how much I would have liked to use them. BUYER BEWARE.
