★★☆☆☆
Love the outcome. Hate the defects.
So while I LOVE LOVE LOVE this flat iron and think it's probably the best that I've ever used, I have to give it a not so great rating because of a lack of longstanding quality. I purchased this in September 2016 so this review is based on its current condition three years later. As you can see I have short, natural curly/kinky hair which grows out nicely. When I want to change up my look this is the best product for getting my hair super straight. I straighten at home via wash & condition, blow dry and then running this flat iron through my hair. No chemicals. Only jojoba oil and a little argon oil heat protectant. In fact, it's almost too good of a straightener because once I start using it regularly, my natural curls start to lose their flex and my hair won't get curly after I wash it again. It becomes this soft curl (almost like a loose jheri curl) and I ended up having to cut my hair off down to the roots just to get it back to it's natural curly state. Because of this, I only straighten my hair for special occasions and never for more than one month at a time. In 2018 I probably straightened my hair for one week. I say that to highlight the fact that this flat iron wasn't used very often. In fact, I probably used it every other day or every third day for about one month over the course of three years. So my problem with this flat iron is that after only a few uses the coating is wearing off on BOTH sides. This causes blue and red flakes to chip off and end up in my hair. You can see this in the pictures. Also, the space between the plates began to snag my hair. This became so annoying that I just stopped using it. So while the price is great (even lower now compared to when I bought mine), this is not going to last very long. And this defect doesn't just apply to this 1 1/2 inch model. As you can see from the pics, it's happened to the 1 inch flat iron also (fyi,I am posting this same review for both products since they produced the same outcome). Pros: Gets super HOT super fast Leaves hair feeling super silky Has many temperature settings Swivel cords allows for easy maneuvering Cons: Plates can get so hot you'll need to use gloves Poor quality on outer coating Temperature control buttons are in a bad location I really hope the manufacturer takes heed to these concerns because this really is a good flat iron. It just doesn't hold up over the long term and is low quality. And what's the point of buying something twice if I could just spend a little bit more money on something else and only have to purchase it once?
