THIS LEASH IS A PIECE OF JUNK - IT BROKE THE FIRST WEEK, AND MY DOG ACTUALLY DIED AS A RESULT
The fourth day I used this leash, it fell out of my hand and onto the sidewalk. The spring immediately broke, the leash lead came entirely out of handle , and my 10 month old, 25 pound beagle got scared from the noise of the spring shooting out. He bolted with the 16" of leash trailing him, leaving me with the handle in my hand. He ran up the street and we lost track of him. We searched for him for three hours, neighbors all out, driving around, police looking for him. He's gotten loose once before and just came right back to our house. He's a beagle with a great sense of smell, and he knows our neighborhood. He was so scared with the leash trailing him, he ran further away from the house than he had been before. He went into the park and must have tried to drink water. The leash lead dragged into the river and got caught on something, dragging him into the freezing cold water. A neighbor was on a walk and saw the dog struggling in the water but he could not get to him due to the thin ice. He called the fire department, but they didn't get there in time to save him. We could not get him out of the water for a couple of days due to the ice. When we recovered him, the leash lead was still attached and stuck in the rocks, and his neck was injured from where he had tried to free himself from the lead. If the leash wasn't such horrible junk, it wouldn't have broken immediately the first time somebody dropped it. The spring breaking scared the dog, the lead trailing him still attached to his collar led to his death. I bought this leash because it had been billed as "heavy duty". This leash's crappiness is directly related to my dog's death. I realize that we had terrible luck and that the leash was not the only factor, but if it wasn't such junk, the spring wouldn't have broken, scaring my dog, and he wouldn't have had this long cord attached to him. Please do not buy this leash.
