I bought this Chromecast since I had previously owned one of the first/second gen ones, but lost it. I figured, "Hey, it's got 4K and it's brand new and not much more than the lesser version." I was expecting it to work just as well as my first gen, but boy was I wrong. When I initially got the device I set it up with WIFI and it worked alright for MAYBE a week. I then decided to connect it via ethernet to give it a bit more juice for HD/4k content. This screwed the whole thing up and it became unusable. I then tried to reset the whole thing and start the set up process again. I no joke spent over half an hour trying to get the app to recognize the device only to get part way through setup and have it fail. It just wouldn't connect. (My internet is not the problem here as every other device was working just fine). After this crap I gave up and left it. A few weeks later I decided to try setting it up again and was successful in less than 30 seconds and it even realized it was connected to ethernet. We're all fixed..... right? Nope. I was able to use it again for about a day until it just wouldn't show up to cast anything to it. This has now happened over and over since the successful setup. It is absolutely mind boggling how you could take a product that I've never had any issues with, create two plus new generations, and actually back-peddle in functionality. Honestly, I have more luck casting content straight to my xbox through youtube than I do on Google's own device. That is just unacceptable. PLEASE do not waste your money on this and at the very least get the lower quality one so that if you have the same issues you didn't spend as much money. Hell, I'd even recommend getting the first gen over this pos. I hope deep down inside that this is just a software issue, but only the lord knows if Google will ever get their s*** together.
