It Works - but please read the directions first
It has worked for me (thus far). That said, I was a bit tentative about the purchase because of the mixed reviews. However, I can easily see how it might not be used correctly, and thus lead to disappointing results. Being a "read the instructions first" type of person, I read the instructions first before using it (as a deterrent). It is not a Star Trek phaser where you just keep holding the button. You press the button for 1-2 seconds (and then release). Preferably you are close to the dog (5 - 15 feet).
The first time I used it with my neighbor's nasty dog, I saw her ears twitch, she stopped barking and behaving aggressively, and then turned around and walked away. I was 5 feet from her.
That lasted for a week and then she resumed the behavior. As I extended my hand with the Dazer, she backed up, but continued the non-social behavior. I gave her a 1-2 second blast and it ended with the same result as the first time I used it.
UPDATE - 5 weeks later and I have not had to use it again. I forgot to mention in my initial review that I made a production of the process of using it. I slowly raised my arm and then hit the button. Now, when I go outside, she rarely barks anymore. But if she does, I slowly raise my arm. She instantly stops barking and retreats to her back door. This trick (slowly raising the arm) also works for my wife (who has never used it nor was she even around when I used it). Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
