Old School "iPod" Revisited
My C Crane Pocket Radio successfully made the cross country trip from CA to my home in Pittsburgh via UPS. My 8 year old daughter looked on with interest as I enthusiastically opened the box. Once she saw the radio she asked, "What's that?" Realizing that she never had experienced a pocket radio, I explained to her that it if we hopped in a time machine and went back in time, she would see kids with this instead of an iPod. Recognizing her curiosity, I quickly popped in 2 fresh AA batteries and let her have a taste. After a minute or two of watching me tinker with tuning dial...she left impatiently and returned to her iPod. I laughed and at that point, took my new toy out on the patio, set up the time and presets (no problems), opened a cold one, sat back and listened to the ballgame.
Four things I love:
1. Great look, size, design, and feel. The picture looks like the it's rubber coated all around (front and back) - it's not, just the sides, bottom, and buttons. 2. Easy to program - one suggestion during set up is to look up a directory of your local and surrounding radio stations. 3 Great sound and reception for a pocket radio...even better with the supplied headset. 4. I'm enjoying free news, talk, music and sports all without wifi and data charges
*One concern is the battery door - open with care as I can see this breaking easily if you force it. Other than that, I would recommend this radio over ANY pocket radio out there.
