★☆☆☆☆
5 stars for THE classic of American political philosophy BUT....
...please boycott Wilder Publications edition, there are many others to choose from. Why? Well, check out the disclaimer Wilder has stuck onto the words of Madison, Hamilton and Jay, thereby earning one star: "This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work." Yup. The Federalist now merits a warning label. The young cannot be trusted not to draw dangerous conclusions from the subversive, dangerous ideas therein, such as limited government, checks and balances, constrained judicial review, dual sovereignty of states and federal government, and deliberative democracy.
