I bought 6 of these for my home in the last year. 3 have already given the replace unit alarm and had to be thrown out. For a supposedly 10-year unit this product is a complete failure. Looking for alternatives and will never buy First Alert again. I always thought they were the best, but the 10 year unit with batteries you can't replace yourself is a scam. UPDATE April 2019: Had another 10 year unit go out tonight, less than 3 years into service. The scam continues. On the plus side, soo I'll be rid of these substandard units and have them fully replaced with what appears to be a superior brand (so far), Kidde.
